Meet Nina Throsby - 2025 LET Scholar

Nina Throsby is the Group Sommelier for Kailis Hospitality Group in Perth, WA where she manages wine programs for The Shorehouse and Gibney. She has a strong focus on building wine lists that are thought provoking, producer-driven, and grounded in a sense of place.

Originally from a scientific background, Nina holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Forensic Science from the University of Western Australia. Her academic background informs a structured and analytical approach to wine, which she has continued to develop through a wine lens in the Court of Master Sommeliers.

In both 2025 and 2023, Nina was named WA Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year. Her wine lists have been recognised nationally, including Best Sparkling List and The Tony Hitchin award for Best New Wine List in Australia. She often uses storytelling to bring wine to life for guests, believing that context is the key to deepen enjoyment and connection.

Nina is an active wine show judge, participating in shows both within her home state and across the country and, in 2025, the Tranche scholarship saw her join the Decanter World Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge in London.

Her selection for the Len Evans Tutorial reflects a long-held ambition to develop her skills and deepen her understanding of the Australian wine show system. Drawn to the opportunity to learn from industry leaders and contribute more meaningfully to the evolution of the wine in this country.
